Pop Narkotic

I think it was Dry River Yacht Club here in Phoenix or maybe it was the Tucson group, Nowhere Man & A Whiskey Girl...or maybe someone entirely different... I fell in LOVE with the flier work done of Pop Narkotic, also know as Jimi Giannatti. Anytime we play around Arizona, I feel like his work represents us and the venues we play. I wish I could explain it. Anyway, we're doing a little short run on new tshirts for an upcoming show at the Spirit Room. Let us know your thoughts on FB or via email!

The Golden Door

I wrote this song during the time of the immigrant roundups in Arizona. Six years later...

The Golden Door Ⓒ C.A. Pacey

Give us your tired, your hungry and your poor, and we will keep them around long enough until we don’t need them around anymore. We’ll wish them luck as we turn their lives upside down. We’ll wish them, “Better days ahead!” as they move on to unfamiliar new hometowns, new hometowns.

Give us your tired, your hungry and your poor so they can live afraid of the dark after we shove them out the door. But before they go we’ll cut them down so they feel worse than ever before with words like “Criminals, go home!” and “You don’t belong around here anymore, anymore!”

"Give me your tired, your poor,” she said. "Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The wretched refuse of your teeming shore send these the homeless, tempest-tossed to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door! I lift my lamp beside the golden door! I lift my lamp beside the golden door! Beside that golden door!"

Give us your tired, your hungry and your poor, and we will keep them around long enough until we don’t need them around anymore. But before they go we’ll cut them down so they feel worse than ever before with words like “Criminals, go home!” and “You don’t belong around here anymore, anymore!”

Concert Against Teen Bullying & Suicide

When I was very young, maybe around 5 years old, maybe a little older, a friend of my mom's committed suicide. I don't remember my mom talking about it much, but I guess she told me that her friend had died in that manner. I doubt at the time that I made a connection between her dying and that she killed herself. I never knew any more than that...how, why, where... I knew she left behind a daughter that was younger than me and a husband. The mom was so beautiful and her name was Carolyn. In recent days, I've thought mostly about the daughters left behind. My heart hurts for them as well as for their parents, the ones still here and the ones not.

Chin Up

I had to stop listening to a new track from the recording studio as I started to write this blog post; the image below is what I wanted to write about and I can't listen to our song as I do. The caption from the linked website, "Palestinian Saber al-Ashkar (29) hurls rocks during clashes with Israeli forces, May 11th, 2018. Photograph: Mahmud Hams/AFP/Getty Images"

I also read that he may have died this day, May 14, 2018, as did more than 50 others with more than 2,000 injured.

Honestly, I do not know enough about anything to comment on anything here, there, or anywhere. I am not a student of the world although I read the news everyday, and if I can, I look deeper into what's reported as to not become a 'fake news' victim. On social media and here on our website, I try to stay away from posting my thoughts about anything as I'd rather not debate with family, friends and strangers, about what I don't know, and what they also probably don't know, as fact or fiction.

I will say that it is very hard to keep my chin up, with every day a new challenge of some sort. I try to rationalize it in my head that today is no different from yesterday and that yesterday is no different than 100, 1,000, or 10,000 yesterdays; as long as somebody has more X than others, or maybe the desire to have more X than others, then there will be fighting, chaos, tragedy, despair, injustice, etc. Applying a 'trickle down' theory, the aforementioned will then contribute to our own personal fighting, chaos, tragedy, despair, injustice, etc.

Maybe I just wanted you to know that I know, or at least read a lot, about what is going on, and when I post about a show my band's playing, a contest we are in, or a new track from the recording studio, it's just my way of trying to keep my chin up. Maybe what we do will help keep your chin up too.
