Rockin' the Sail Inn

Happy Thursday! Last night, Andy and I trekked to the Sail Inn to play a few acoustic tunes at their open mic. We hope to take the Sail Inn stage soon as a full band; sound at the Sail Inn is fantastic, thanks to Mr. Ken!! There was a duo last night who stopped by to play a set on their way to SXSW. I didn’t catch the singer/songwriter’s name, but she was awesome even though was so sick. I hope she’s feeling better today; she’s got quite an adventure ahead of her. There were two other groups last night headed to SXSW that we didn’t see on-stage, rather they were in the parking lot warming up, one of the perks of touring. We wish them all the best on their adventure!!! What about Carol Pacey and the Honey Shakers at SXSW? Ohhhh, I'd love that one!

Phoenix Film Festival show just added

See calendar for details!

Thank you!!!

What a Friday night it was at Hollywood Alley and the International Pop Overthrow Festival!  I cannot thank David Bash with IPO enough for the opportunity to play this event.  And ditto to Hollywood Alley for putting it on.  We shared the stage this night with Lunatics & Lovers, Pawl, Cait Brennan with Zen Lunatics, the Naked Chollas, Bad Kids and Dave Rave.  We were lucky enough to share Cait’s and the Naked Cholla’s fans as we were between these two groups – thank you, fans, for your support!!  Special thanks for Abraham Karam for the awesome photos and Andy for putting together the videos.  I cannot say it in words how totally unbelievable it is from me to know where I started just three years ago to this fabulous, kick-ass  band, so thank you to Andy, Mike and Omar!

Hollywood Alley ROCKS!!

Finally our whole name in print!!!  See you tomorrow night!!!  And I dare you, double-dog dare you if you will, to get yourself on the dance floor...I think we have the sweetest set to shake your honey!

March at the Xtreme Bean

Drum roll, please!

Our new drummer is Omar Cifuentes and you can check him out on our News page.  He brings a lot of fresh percussion style to our tunes and we are looking forward to playing with him.  Come out to see him at the IPO on March 2 (check out our Calender page for the info)!  We will be rocking a tight set and introducing a new tune, The Knitting Song!  You don't want to miss it!

Two weeks to review...

Last Saturday was great.  In the afternoon, Mike and I played at the Desperado Film Festival.  The night before, I attended the event to watch the movie at about country music star, Chely Wright.  It was awesome in all respects.  Chely will be the Grand Marshall at this year’s Phoenix Pride Festival as well as performer, and I look forward to seeing her.  Later Saturday evening, Mike and I played a short set at the Sail Inn and rocked as hard as a duo could, missing Andy a ton at both shows.  We look forward to going back to the Sail Inn with our full band!  Major shout outs to the lads at Paradise Valley Community College and Ken at the Sail Inn for making us sound awesome at these shows!!

Andy was back Thursday and joined me at ASU for their event, Alive at 5.  Some seriously dark clouds threatened our performance, but they had more bark than bite as it turned out and we stayed dry for a great show.  Last night we rocked the Rogue as a trio. I swear, we were there too!  Jake from Roll Acosta was super cool and we hope to meet up again.  The Foley’s were great; we didn’t get to catch Field Tripp.  Again, the sound was awesome, major props to Travis at the Rogue.  Thanks, new fans, for your time and comments.  We really appreciated it!  We look forward to going back to the Rogue with our full band, keep an eye out for us!

I’ll fill you in our new drummer next time and we’ll see you Friday night at the gallery!

If you don’t live in our area, but you have friends on Facebook that do, PLEASE send them a link to this message.  We really want to win by number of votes so we can ROCK the Hard Rock!!

Below are some of the other parts to this contest.  Pardon the length; I thought you’d enjoy the read.

Many, many thanks in advance!  If you know where I started with the musical adventure, with one little amp and a classical guitar on the streets of Phoenix, to a bad a$$ rocking little band, then you know that I sincerely appreciate your support, ditto from the guys in the band.

Best regards,

Carol Pacey and the Honey Shakers

Hard Rock Rising 2012 is THE global battle of the bands, spanning the world in search of music's next big talent. Participating Hard Rock Cafes worldwide will host local battles to find a band that can represent their city in a global competition. 86 cities will compete but only one will win. The band that ultimately wins will be awarded the opportunity of a lifetime: a trip to London to perform in Hyde Park and open Hard Rock Calling 2012!

Hard Rock Calling has quickly become one of Europe's most exciting music festivals. Over the past 5 years, headliners such as Aerosmith, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, The Who, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, The Police, The Killers, Bon Jovi, Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks have rocked Hyde Park. And with thousands of fans and top headliners, Hard Rock Calling 2012 is the chance of a lifetime for emerging bands to gain exposure and showcase their talent in front of today's most iconic artists. For more information, check out

Local Battle Events

Once local voting is complete on Feb 6, each participating cafe will invite the top 9 bands to perform at live battle events hosted between February 13 - April 1. Only those bands that received the most votes will be chosen to participate in the live battles. During the live battle, bands will perform for fans and judges, who will choose a winner to move on to the global competition and represent their city to compete for the grand prize. The winning band in each city will receive some pretty cool stuff: $500 (equivalent in local currency), a $500 Hard Rock Cafe Gift Certificate and a 1 year subscription to the top tier ReverbNation Deluxe Service Package to aid in promoting participation in Hard Rock Rising 2012.

Global Competition

The winning band from each city will move on to compete globally. 86 will compete via online judging to determine the top 10 bands. Votes will only be accepted from April 7 - 22, so use your time wisely to promote and gain votes. Once again, fans can download tracks for free on Hard Rock Cafe Facebook pages but during this phase, a fan can only vote for one band. After the first download/vote, they can continue to download free tracks but they will not count as votes. Fans will be required to "like" a Hard Rock Facebook page to participate but there is no registration or fee required. Once the top 10 have been determined by voting they will be reviewed by a panel of industry experts. On May 2, one will be crowned the Hard Rock Rising grand prize winner and announced to the world.

Week in review, Week 3 of 2012

Last week started off in the studio with mixing some more on Bliss and C’mon Say Sorry.  There is still a bit more to do on these first three songs of the new album, but they are coming along.  We are going through a drummer line-up change so we have to postpone recording new tunes.  I know, seems like we just went through a line-up change, but sometimes it comes with the territory.  Patience is one I’ve worked on my entire life, and I tell you, trying to become a musician, writing original material, working with other musicians and venues, well, all are extreme exercises in patience.  Worth it, but man!  If anybody has a drummer in their back pocket, please let me know!

The Xtreme Bean was awesome Friday night!  Many more patrons without headphones than with, and many stuck around for quite a while with a whole lot more response than we are used to at the Bean.  Thank you, fans, for chatting with us, and definitely thank you for your genero$ity.   We will be back in February!

Darwin’s Waiting Room Bar and Grill was too cool!  Darwin’s has a small stage and no sound equipment.  Javier just barely squeezed on the drum stage and Mike was hidden behind one of our speakers.  It was all good and we had a great time.  It was very nice meeting Genevieve, Mike Van Loon and the O’Henry Band.  We had to rush-ish off stage so Mike could set up and then we couldn’t stay to check them all out, but I know it was great!  Mad props to Genevieve for her comedy routine; comedy takes nerve and she’s got it!  Thanks, Penny, for taking good care of us!

This week we have two shows on Saturday, one at the Desperado Film Festival in Paradise Valley and the other at the Sail Inn in Tempe.  Both with be acoustic shows sans our drummer, so just one less Honey Shaker, but with all plenty of shake still!!!  See you soon!

I love this photo from Surreal Sister Photography taken at Darwin's...thanks, ladies!
