Week in review, Week 3 of 2012

Last week started off in the studio with mixing some more on Bliss and C’mon Say Sorry.  There is still a bit more to do on these first three songs of the new album, but they are coming along.  We are going through a drummer line-up change so we have to postpone recording new tunes.  I know, seems like we just went through a line-up change, but sometimes it comes with the territory.  Patience is one I’ve worked on my entire life, and I tell you, trying to become a musician, writing original material, working with other musicians and venues, well, all are extreme exercises in patience.  Worth it, but man!  If anybody has a drummer in their back pocket, please let me know!

The Xtreme Bean was awesome Friday night!  Many more patrons without headphones than with, and many stuck around for quite a while with a whole lot more response than we are used to at the Bean.  Thank you, fans, for chatting with us, and definitely thank you for your genero$ity.   We will be back in February!

Darwin’s Waiting Room Bar and Grill was too cool!  Darwin’s has a small stage and no sound equipment.  Javier just barely squeezed on the drum stage and Mike was hidden behind one of our speakers.  It was all good and we had a great time.  It was very nice meeting Genevieve, Mike Van Loon and the O’Henry Band.  We had to rush-ish off stage so Mike could set up and then we couldn’t stay to check them all out, but I know it was great!  Mad props to Genevieve for her comedy routine; comedy takes nerve and she’s got it!  Thanks, Penny, for taking good care of us!

This week we have two shows on Saturday, one at the Desperado Film Festival in Paradise Valley and the other at the Sail Inn in Tempe.  Both with be acoustic shows sans our drummer, so just one less Honey Shaker, but with all plenty of shake still!!!  See you soon!

I love this photo from Surreal Sister Photography taken at Darwin's...thanks, ladies!

Carol Pacey and the Honey Shakers to WIN Hard Rock Rising GLOBAL contest

We are getting our fans ready to rally for the biggest battle of the bands yet! It all starts by getting our fans to vote. Nine bands (minimum) with the most votes in Phoenix, AZ will earn the opportunity to perform live in a battle of the bands at Hard Rock Cafe Phoenix. One band will be crowned the regional winner of Phoenix and move on to compete globally for a chance to open Hard Rock Calling 2012 in London's Hyde Park! Here's how it works:

Timing and Voting
Beginning January 25 and ending February 5, our song, C'mon Say Sorry, will be available for fans to download on Hard Rock Cafe Phoenix's Facebook page. Each download counts as a "vote" for us. Fans can vote for as many bands as they would like. There is no registration or fee required for fans. Anyone around the world may download your song. There are, however, a few criteria that fans must meet for a download to count as a 'vote':

  • Fans will be required to "Like" the local Hard Rock Facebook page.
  • Fans must live within 50 miles of the Hard Rock Cafe Phoenix.
  • Fans may only vote ONCE for each band.

So please tell your friends and ask them to tell their friends and so on and so on and so...Carol Pacey and the Honey Shakers!!!

Two shows this week and Vegas review

The Freakin' Frog was great!!!  While admittedly it was lightly attended, this venue is awesome to see and play music which I say every time.  If you are an AZ band, figure out a way to get there, work your promo, and I just about guarantee you'll love it!  And give my best to Howard and Jack!  Extra special thanks to Bonnie and Manny for everything!!!  Nice to meet you, Topher Roza! Bonnie had a great time with your original tunes, humming them all the way home!  ;o)

The SunDust Gallery show was well attended Friday night.  We figure about 300 folks passed through the night.  We debuted a few new the crowd went nuts for Andy's guitar playing.  It's called, "The Honey Shakers."  Yep, every sweet-named band needs it's own song I figured when I wrote it...  And we played, "Walk Away Now," also a new tune and bit more edgy than most of my songs.  Come out to the Xtreme Bean or Darwin's this weekend to catch these songs and more, you'll be glad you did!

Week in review, Week 1 of 2012

How did this first week of 2012 go for you?  I hope awesome!!  My year started off with family, fireworks and food in Mexico, how can that get any more awesome?  New food for this visit, menudo, and it was pretty good although I stayed about from beefy bits.  Everybody there and here is doing well, and I think excited about the new year.

We updated our band website, which is exciting, but we lost a lot of our previous news and blog entries. Oh well, start fresh!! We did not have any shows this week.  I gave a interview to Echo Magazine for our upcoming show at the Desperado Film Festival event.  One of the best questions was related to when I started this musical adventure, like maybe I've been playing and writing since I was a young teen or so...ah, nope....try 35.  That's when I picked up a guitar for the first time.  I started playing shows Oct 2008.  I'll omit the math there... ;o)

The first song of 2012 is written and it going to the Honey Shakers Monday!  In fact, we'll be trying out many new tunes with the band so I'm excited!!  Andy already worked out guitar parts and it's good!

Here's one of my favorite photos from 2011 taken while we played at the Phoenix Pride Festival.

Have a great week!
